Traeger di Pietro

Traeger di Pietro’s body of work is a journey into the wonder of his many varied subjects, deriving from a broad and diverse range of sources – a local fisherman, a scalloper, an elephant. Often, he says, he draws on imagery from his subconscious. Using oil for some series and mixed media for others, Traeger brings a distinct imaginative approach to the creation of each of his compositions. His series of fishermen done in oil have an Impressionistic feel with the precise combination of “quick” brushstrokes, subtle gradations of color and attention to detail synthesizing to communicate a sincerity of subject. The human element to his work draws in the viewer. We identify with his perspective; we feel the physical presence, the emotion and the wistful desire of his characters. Traeger’s mixed media series, featuring a combination of collage, oils and glitter, take a more contemporary turn while still conveying these experiential truths. The eclecticism of Traeger’s work transcends the conventional limitations of painting in only one style. His approach to making art is to, “capture and acknowledge” his surroundings, to “[honor] the moments of time and beauty that surround him daily.” Through creation he feels he is telling his life story. His ambition is to, “capture and appreciate the subject in a manner that communicates the respect and admiration [he] has for the beauty [he] sees in the world.”

Traeger di Pietro statement: Art helps put a spin on the way we perceive life, even if it is only for a moment. At times, staring into a painting is like looking in a mirror, it helps us not just see, but also reflect. The purpose of my art is to visually stimulate the viewer both emotionally and intellectually. My goal is to develop another perspective during their experience. It can be perceived one way, but hopefully it takes their thoughts into a completely different direction. The psychological and yet simple ideas that portray positive growth in the mind and spirit is what I want to leave the viewer with. bio: Traeger di Pietro was born in Salem Massachusetts in !976.
