Edgartown Light by Hilary Kinney
Hilary Snowdon Kinney’s paintings of Martha’s Vineyard are inspired by the summers she spent on the island over the years. She has fond memories of riding her scooter to work at the Oak Bluffs Bakery at dawn, where the water and the land intertwined. She paints in oil on unstretched linen and then stretches and frames the pieces after completion. Through color marks, depicting light, shadow and form, she creates a rhythm to carry the eye. Hilary recently relocated to Encinitas, CA from the San Francisco Bay Area where she raised her three children. She earned her BFA from the Maine College of Art, and also studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and the California College of the Arts. She worked as a graphic designer in New York City and Chicago before moving to the Bay Area 30 years ago.
