Give Me Peace on Earth by Carol Maguire
Carol Maguire

Carol Maguire is an oil painter from the Philadelphia area. She studied painting and art history at the Sorbonne in Paris, Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Inspired by a love for color, textiles and gardening, her work focuses on objects that surround her daily life.

Carol started painting full time and showing her work after September 11, 2001. Her extensive travels have brought her to India, Peru, Romania, Guatemala and Honduras, where she has taught her artistic skills to indigenous women. She now paints and teaches color theory workshops in her 200-year-old yellow farmhouse in the western suburbs of Philadelphia as well as in Mexico, Florence, the Bahamas, and on Cape Cod.

Carol is a colorist, known for her exquisite color combinations, and applies this to her still life, landscape paintings. Luscious, thick and spontaneous, she achieves a seemingly natural relationship between texture and color to easily draw the eye. Her use of the palette knife adds a unique abstract quality and causes her sumptuous compositions to pop from the canvas.

In 2015, Carol was awarded an artist residency in Brittany France, and will return this year to be honored by the art organization there, Les Amis de la Grande Vigne of Dinan.

Carol is represented by galleries in Delaware, New York, Virginia and in Massachusetts on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard.
